THEIR STORY

Lyrics

We could listen to the man
We could listen to his story
Or 'cause it’s not about us
We could just ignore it
Might be on a park bench or huddled in a corner
Of the station waiting for nothing ‘cept to get warmer

If we’d care to listen a bit
To him or any other
We could learn what it’s like
Or would we rather
Hide in our shell & pretend they’re a problem
That can be solved with a sign or some uniformed strongman

We could listen to his story
Or we could choose to ignore it

Shit happens to everyone
Maybe not you yet
If you’re lucky it won’t happen
To you 'til you’re dead
But that’s not the way it is for most of us here
So we need to be careful who we judge & who we sneer

Benefit of the doubt, lot of people don’t know
Judging book by the cover or façade along the road
Things aint often what they seem 'til we look at them close That’s right they aint what they seem 'til we look real close

We could listen to his story
Or we could choose to ignore it

You know all the media has to point the finger at someone
But no-one seems to bother where they might’ve come from Or What might’ve happened to them along the way
To put ‘em in a place that resulted in this day
Some psycho who’s brains were scrambled in a war
Or as a young kid screwed behind closed doors
Whatever it was one thing’s pretty sure
They weren’t brought up sheltered like me & heaps more

The station man’s story might not be that bad
But I wouldn’t mind betting it was still pretty sad
Maybe someone caring a long time ago
Might’ve got him someplace better than the place he now knows

We could listen to his story
Or we could choose to ignore it
We could listen to her story
Or we could choose to ignore it
We could listen to their story
Or we could choose to ignore it
